"Web accessibility means that people with disabilities can use the Web. More specifically, web accessibility means that people with disabilities can perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with the Web, and that they can contribute to the Web. Web accessibility also benefits others, including older people with changing abilities due to aging."
Increasingly, it also includes the ability of a web site to render itself consistently across different browsers and successfully across various media. For more information on web accessibility go to the Web Accessibility Initiative pages at www.w3.org/WAI.
However, at this time, we are please to confirm the following status on all pages:
At this time the W3C have yet to finalise their paper on WCAG 2.0. However, we have tested our site using the ATRC Web Accessibility Checker and are pleased to confirm that we have a Level 2 Conditional Pass against the proposed WCAG 2.0 proposals.
In the meantime, all pages include a "Skip to content" above the header image, and pages which contain a large amount of text content have a "Go large" link, which allows the content to be viewed in a larger size and in a larger window.
This web site renders consistently across the following browsers.
It will also render well on Internet Explorer 6, but the layout can suffer when the screen size is reduced.
It does not render well on Opera 7 and older versions, or on the Netscape browser. These issues will be addressed in the next release.
This release, r.1.0, of www.dorsetadventure.co.uk has been developed in CSS for viewing on desktop computer screens and laptops. Other media will be included in later releases.
R.3.0 will add support for handheld media, along with any remaining requirements and recommendations arising from WCAG 2.0.
Mobile support will be added in R.4.0.
